The Three Owls of Children's Literature

I recently bought this necklace from Forever21 because it reminded me of children's literature. Yes, children's literature even affects what I wear! According to children's librarian Anne Carroll Moore (1871-1961), the three owls of children's literature are the author, the illustrator, and the critic. :o)

Whooo-whooo!
You are the fourth owl... the reader! The wise and lovely reader, who shares her passion with all of us.

I think Moore's three owls eventually became five owls. I forgot the other two owls, but I am pretty sure one was the librarian. :o)

Love the necklace. I have to laugh-- I've been wearing dangly owl necklaces from the 70s for years. I like to tell my daughters that I started the trend. My library is even decorated in owls now. (Tacky ceramic ones from the 70s are the best!)
