I have this ritual before reading a new book I have bought. First, I open up the book to a random page and smell it. (I love the smell of new books!) Then, I remove the book jacket, unfold it, and read everything on it. After studying the jacket, I feel the texture of the book cover, endpapers, and pages. I also check the spine, headband, and footband of the book. Lastly, I slip the book jacket back on and smell the book pages a couple more times.
The book as an object of art is something to marvel at, wouldn't you say? :o)
What are your reading rituals?

Isn't it funny though about book jackets? It's supposed to protect the book, but I know many try to protect the jacket itself.
I like the smell of a new book, too. I always open the book and "break it in" like a librarian taught us when I was little (folding down the pages, alternating front and back till you get to middle pages). I can hear the spine cracking and sighing a little. :) After this stretch, I dig in!
I like the smell of the bookstore also.
This is random, but I've got a very organied bookshelf. It starts with YA and MG and since starting my blog, I've organized my books by ethnicity as it helps me see what group of color I read the least of (right now it's Native Americans :( Then comes adult fiction and my favorite classics. My bookshelf is overflowing so I either need more shelves or to re-organize!
I love this...think I'll have to start a ritual of my own now!
Edi, seriously? No ritual???
